ShamRockin’ for a Cure Raises $60,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park
The quest for a cure continued March 13th 2010, with a party to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
ALPHARETTA, GA - March 21, 2010
Fast becoming the definitive St. Patrick’s Day party in Atlanta, ShamRockin’ once again provided guests with great night out combined with raising valuable dollars in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis; a fatal genetic disease.
ShamRockin’ 2010 welcomed over 400 guests onto the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater stage where they were rocked by Chicago 80’s band "The Breakfast Club". Guests enjoyed incredible catering sponsored by Carmine’s Italian and Olde Blind Dog, local Alpharetta restaurants. "We were happy to be able to contribute to this event," said Chad Mackes, owner of Carmines. "To successfully cater a high-quality event while helping the CF community was a rewarding experience for the entire Carmine’s family."
Other ShamRockin’ sponsors ensuring the night was a success included: Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, Karlsson’s Gold Vodka, Rock 100.5, "The Crusher" wines, United Distributors, Southern Spirits & Fine Wines, and SafeRide, whose drivers helped make certain party go-ers and their vehicles got home safely. Exciting auction items from Biker’s Dream Atlanta, the Ford Smith Gallery, Room&Board and Murphy Custom Builders enticed the crowd to open their wallets and build up to $60,000 that ShamRockin' will contribute directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Chris and Mary Guiney, founders of ShamRockin’ For A Cure challenged event planners eight months ago to raise $25,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at this spring’s event. "To have more than doubled our fundraising goal is a testament to our planning committee, our sponsors, the determination of CF families and the warmth and generosity of the Atlanta community," stated Mr. Guiney. "Everyone is excited to start planning for next year." The concept of Shamrockin’ was inspired by the Guiney’s longtime friends Pam and Jon Baker of Roswell, parents of Gavin (10) and Jake (7), both born with CF.
Also attending and speaking at the event was Margarete Cassalina, acclaimed author of Beyond Breathing and mother of two children with cystic fibrosis. "My husband Marc and I were thrilled to attend ShamRockin’ this year, as the event marked what would have been our daughter Jena’s 17th birthday. Jena lost her battle with CF, and fundraisers like ShamRockin’ help fund research to make sure others will win their battles. We have attended CF events all over the country and rarely have we had as much fun, and felt as much love and energy, as we experienced at ShamRockin’ 2010".
